What is Musical Bingo?
Musical bingo is a fun twist on traditional bingo that's perfect for parties, family gatherings, or game nights with friends. Instead of numbers being called out, players listen to songs and mark off the ones that appear on their bingo cards. It's easy to set up, incredibly engaging, and works for groups of any size.
The best part? With our Bingo Card Generator and your Spotify account, you can create custom music bingo cards in minutes using any playlist you love.
What You'll Need
- A Spotify account with a playlist you want to use
- A device to play music (phone, tablet, or computer with speakers)
- Bingo cards for each player (generated with our tool)
- A way to mark cards (players can use our digital cards on their phones)
- One host who controls the music and knows the songs
Step-by-Step Setup
Open our Bingo Card Generator and connect your Spotify account. This allows you to import songs directly from your playlists, making card creation quick and easy.
Choose a playlist that fits your group. For the best experience, pick a playlist with at least 30-50 songs that your players might recognize. Theme playlists work great (80s hits, movie soundtracks, current pop, etc.).
Customize your bingo cards by adjusting the grid size (3x3, 4x4, or 5x5), colors, and layout. Each card will be automatically generated with a unique random arrangement of songs from your playlist.
Generate the bingo cards and share a unique link with each player. Everyone can open their card on their own phone or device, no printing required!
How to Play
Designate a Host
One person needs to be the host. The host controls the music and will be the only one who can see which song is playing. This is important because players need to identify songs by listening, not by reading the song title on screen!
Start the Playlist
The host plays the playlist on shuffle. When a song starts, players have a limited time to identify it.
Give Time to Guess
Give players 10-20 seconds to listen and identify the song. Some songs are instantly recognizable from the first few notes, while others might need a bit more time. Adjust the timing based on your group and the difficulty of the songs.
Reveal and Mark
After the time is up, the host announces the song title and artist. Players check their cards and mark off the song if they have it. With our digital cards, simply tap the song to cross it out.
Keep Playing
Continue playing songs until someone gets a winning pattern. You can play for:
- One Line: Five songs in a row (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal)
- Full Card (Bingo!): All songs on the card marked off
- Four Corners: The four corner songs marked
For longer games, continue playing after someone gets a line until another player gets a full card (blackout). You can also have small prizes for lines and a grand prize for the full card!
Tips for a Great Game Night
- Choose the right playlist: Pick songs your group will mostly recognize. A mix of well-known hits and a few deeper cuts keeps it interesting.
- Set the mood: Musical bingo works great as a main activity or as background entertainment at parties.
- Keep it moving: Don't let the game drag. 15-20 seconds per song usually works well.
- Have prizes ready: Small prizes or bragging rights make the game more exciting!
- Mix up the difficulty: Include some easy songs everyone knows and some that are a bit harder to keep players on their toes.
